SEX+: A Sexual Health Revolution

Shame, fear, and stigma in sexual health education, programs, policies, and services won’t magically disappear. It’s going to take a revolution! We need to change the way we think about adolescents and their sexual and reproductive health. That also means we need to change the ways in which we, youth-supporting professionals, do our work. We need sex-positive attitudes, language, and actions that will create a sex-positive culture—not only for young people but for all people. A revolution doesn’t happen overnight, but it can happen. Don’t think you are the “revolution-type”? Does “revolution” seem too radical to you? Or too impossible? If you are intrigued by sex-positivity and all the ways it can improve the lives of young people, you are the “revolution-type”! Join others who believe that we cannot wait to move forward!

The 40th annual national Healthy Teen Network conference is a capacity-building, professional development, and networking opportunity for professionals who work with youth. Specifically, we will address the need to ensure access to high quality and youth-friendly evidence-based and innovative sexuality education and services, and to shore-up and expand policies and practices that respect and meet the needs of youth and young adults, including those who are pregnant and parenting.

Do you have research data or program findings you want to share with the world? Do you prefer the one-on-one interaction of a conversation rather than a workshop session? Then a poster session may be the perfect fit for you! We are still accepting poster submissions, check out the poster guidelines for more information and tips on what makes a great poster.

The deadline to submit a poster proposal is 11:59 PM ET, May 31, 2019.

Standard A/V

Wireless internet, an LCD projector, speakers, podium (in rooms with adequate space), and microphone (in rooms large enough to warrant one) are provided in each room. Laptops are NOT provided to presenters. You must bring a laptop if you intend to display a presentation on the projection screen.

Those presenters using Apple computers must use their own adapter to connect to the LCD projector. Healthy Teen Network is not able to provide adapters for Apple computers.

Workshop Sessions

Healthy Teen Network highly encourages unique sessions. Session proposals submitted and accepted at prior conferences may be submitted for consideration. However, to make the Healthy Teen Network Conference as rich, diverse, and unique as possible, we require presenters to provide information about previous presentations of the session, including conference name, date/s, and location/s on the Call for Session Proposal.

Workshop sessions feature an individual, group, or panel presentation on skills building relevant to programmatic experiences, research, innovation, leadership development, organizational sustainability, advocacy, policy, or procedures.

All workshops are 75 minutes long. Workshops must be interactive and provide attendees with new tools, resources, or strategies applicable to their work. While we encourage presenters to showcase their work, we want to strongly emphasize that only one-third of the workshop session should be spent doing so, with the remaining time allotted to capacity building.
